Preface
Funny story: I already wrote this post once, but I lost it because I accidentally deleted the repo it was stored in while I was shifting some files around. On the bright side, I realized that I wrote wayyy too much, so now I can take that braindump and use this as an opportunity to condense my thoughts. So I guess there's a bright side!
Why write?
This was the main thrust of my first post. Initially, I thought that the only reason why I wanted a blog was because everyone else had it on their websites, and it looked cool. Those are both valid reasons, but upon further reflection, I found a few more reasons that I think are important (To me, and maybe to you too):
-
Being more mindful about things: Writing forces you to slow down and actually think. It's something I don't really do often enough, and you might not either. But being mindful - taking a second or two to just stop and think about things - is a surprisingly useful skill. Writing just helps me do that more often.
-
Writing is a skill, and a useful one at that. Unfortunately, I haven't written anything substantive since I graduated high school (Other than project documentation, I suppose), which is a shame. I'd say I'm much better at making conversation than I am at writing, because it's such a different skill. You need to plan out how to convey your thoughts, keep them clear and concise, while also writing in a unique voice. It's challenging, but that's where the fun is! And in any case, I'm sure as hell not gonna get any better at it if I don't practice. So here I am, practicing.
-
My memory is terrible. Well, correction: It's not bad, but ther'es just too many things to remember these days. Between classes, work, and all the other things that just pop up in life, it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the ideas and thoughts floating through my head. This is a way for me to write those down in a semi-permanent fashion so that I can refer to them later.
Those are just the heavy hitters. In any case, I think this could be a useful experiment. If it doesn't turn out well, so what? Not everything has to be a success. I'm just excited to try this out and see where it goes.
What's with the banner?
I was trying to come up with a cool image to put at the top of this, and for some reason How to Train Your Dragon popped into my head. It's a great movie (One of my favorites, actually), and I thought it would be a fitting image to use. Maybe I'll keep that pattern going in the future? I guess it'll depend on what the post is about, but it's a fun idea to think about.
What's next?
No clue! That's the beauty of this, I don't really have a plan for this! I just want to see how it evolves naturally. And, the best part is that I probably won't have that much of an audience, so it's not like I have to worry about deadlines that much. If someone is reading this though, I hope you enjoy reading my random thoughts! If you find anything interesting, shoot me a message! I'd love to chat.
